What Do I Expect?

We know that attending a church service for the first time can be a super scary thing... 

Being unsure of what the dress, culture or even when to stand up and sit down can be a weirdly paralyzing thought! 

At First Pres, you can expect friendly and authentic people, engaging and relevant music and worship, compelling preaching from the Bible, and an opportunity to encounter God. You will be encouraged and maybe even challenged.


This page serves as a first time visitor guide that will help you navigate your first time at a First Pres gathering, and help ease any questions or concerns you might have before attending. 

Getting Started

Congregation Size: Although we estimate that about 500-600 adults consider our church as their home, we estimate about 425 people come on a Sunday morning for our three services. We also have around 125 students that are connected with the church as well. 


Communion: We have communion on the first Sunday of every month. Our communion runs a little differently, as we pass the bread and grape juice (Fun Fact: Presbyterians don't drink!) down the rows. Everyone is welcome to take communion and gluten free options are available. 


Fellowship Time: We offer a time in the Fellowship Hall between the 8:30 and 11 service where our congregation can have a snack and get to know each other better. 

Connections Class

We have two Connection Classes in Fall and Spring. This 3-week class allows those interested to get to know FPC and others, what we believe and consider our church's mission, and how to get more involved. We discuss the basics of the Christian faith and some of the particularities of being Presbyterian. At the end of the class, we invite those who participated to consider becoming members of our church.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know that every church is different and that figuring out the culture of a church can definitely be one of the biggest hurdles. To ease your mind, here are answers to a couple of the most frequently asked questions we get at FPC. 

  • The short answer is to wear what you are most comfortable in. On any given Sunday, you will see every style and level of attire, both casual and formal. We encourage people to be themselves. Our 9:30 service tends to be more casual, but people at 8:30 and 11 don't need to be more formal, either.

  • If you are attending the 8:30 or 11:00 am service, you can park in the south parking lot and enter through the main entrance. If you are attending the 9:30 am service, you can park near the east entrance.

  • No, you do not need to be a member to get involved at First Pres. We encourage you to explore our ministries, especially if that helps you decide to make this your church home!

  • We recognize that individuals like to connect in various ways. You may call and speak to a staff person or leave a voicemail, or send an email directly to him/her. Our front office will always take messages for staff members. As various staff members work at different hours - both on site and off site - we do not recommend dropping by without first checking to see if a staff member is available. 

  • If you have the contact name of the group's leader, you can contact them directly to find out more information about the bible study. If not, you can contact the church office at (970)-242-1923.
