Missions & Outreach

Supporting mission organizations and doing annual outreach events is important to our church because it helps us to be the people we want to be. For that reason, First Pres supports a large number of local, national, and international mission organizations through financial funds and volunteers working with these organizations.  We also partner with multiple organizations to do annual outreach events within our community where we provide financial support and volunteers for these events.

If you would like to know more about our current Missions and Outreach work, please contact Emily Grady at outreach@firstpresgj.org.

Outreach:

Branching Out to Our Community

Our Outreach Team works with many organizations in the Valley and beyond to provide financial support and volunteers. We strive to help as many groups as we can, even if that only includes sending one or two people to help when one of the organizations needs a few more hands.

Getting Involved in the Community

We support several different organizations  and participate in events throughout the valley and larger Mesa County area, a couple of which are highlighted below. We encourage you to click on the pictures to find out more!

  • Hope of the Grand Valley

HOPE of the Grand Valley is a local Mesa County nonprofit that was founded in 2008.  Their mission is to provide support and a hand up to hard-working parents that still find it hard to make ends meet at times.  HOPE of the Grand Valley provides a hand up not a hand out; by fostering and encouraging independence for hardworking, low-income families.  First Pres has been part of Hope of the Grand Valley since its beginning.  In addition to financial contributions, First Pres members spend time volunteering for special events held by Hope including the 5/10k run/walk and the Christmas family event.

  • Camp Hope

Camp Hope's mission is to help kids realize that they are Loved, Valued, and Created for Purpose.  They do this by providing camp experiences at no charge.  They equip them with God's tools to:  become leaders in their communities, work through difficult situations using conflict resolution skills; and build self-confidence through positive image, respect for others and for themselves.  First Pres provides financial support and sends our members to help at the camp.

  • Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in approximately 70 countries.  Habitat's vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live.  Habitat works toward their vision by building strength, stability, and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing.  First Pres has partnered with Habitat for sixteen years, providing financial support and participating in an annual Habitat Build Day during which 15 to 20 First Pres members join together to help build a local house.

  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes: Fields of Faith

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is touching millions of lives...one heart at a time.  Since 1954, FCA has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high, and youth levels to use the powerful platform of sport to reach every coach and every athlete with the transforming power of Jesus Christ.  FCA focuses on serving local communities around the globe by engaging, equipping, and empowering coaches and athletes to unite, inspire and change the world through the gospel.  One of their special events each year is Fields of Faith night.  Students, teachers, churches, and community members come together to learn, sing, hear testimonies, and pray for students, teachers, and our community.  First Pres is a sponsor and participates in this event annually in the Grand Valley.

  • Common Grounds & The Christ Center: Meat the Freshmen

Colorado Mesa University has eleven Christian groups on campus.  These groups work together under the name "Common Grounds" to make sure that any student inquiring about Christ can join a group that fits their needs.  They hold an annual event called "Meat the Freshman" during which they feed over 1000 students steak and all the fixings.  The event is in August at the CMU Plaza.  First Pres has been part of the event since its beginning in 2009.  We provide financial support and 20 to 30 volunteers to help with the event. Contact Emily Grady to volunteer (970-242-1923 or outreach@firstpresgj.org).

  • Empty Bowls

Catholic Outreach's mission is to proclaim the dignity and worth of each person, respond to human needs, while striving to show the compassion of Christ. Empty Bowls is a fundraiser for the Soup Kitchen at Catholic Outreach.  A ticket buys a beautiful handmade pottery bowl (bowls are made and donated by over 60 potters in the Grand Valley), gourmet soup made by one of thirty culinary restaurants in the Valley, homemade rolls, apple cider and homemade cookies. First Pres supports Grand Valley Catholic Outreach with Mission Funds and many First Pres members volunteer at the Empty Bowls event.

Outreach Events

We participate in several outreach events during the year, where we get out into the community to help others and spread God's love to those around us.

Some of our bigger events include:

ShareFest weekend, Habitat Build Day, Meat the Freshmen, Meet and Greet with First Responders.

And many more, there's always time to be involved. If you're interested in volunteering, contact Emily Grady at outreach@firstpresgj.org.
