What is The Kingdom Assignment?
There is deep happiness when we are found faithful with what’s been entrusted to us; a burst of joy that surfaces when we’re given ever-increasing opportunities to contribute to a cause bigger than ourselves. That’s not to say the moment that we are called upon isn’t daunting. When we are called to step up, most people take a nervous breathe, wondering why someone would chose them.
Many of those thoughts may have been going through the minds of 100 people who were handed $100 in church one Sunday. Denny Bellesi's Kingdom Assignment to his congregation came with three conditions:
Those who took on the challenge didn't expect just how much their life would change in the process. Not only that, but it changed the lives of countless others in the process.
FPC Takes on the Challenge
On May 19th, 2024, Pastor Tom asked people at every service to step forward and volunteer – not knowing what they were volunteering for. Between all three services, 42 people stepped forward. Some of them even teenagers coming up with their parents. Then, they put out their hands and were given $100 from our "Branching Out to Serve Others" fund. Pastor Tom also gave them The Kingdom Assignment to read. Soon, he sent them out to further God's kingdom and report back in 90 days with their results.
Branching Out to Serve Others
The Kingdom Assignment helped us to branch out into our community, town, and even other areas in the county. Listed below are the ministries and organizations that our 42 participants selected.
Planting Seeds
In May 2024, the 42 participants set out with their $100, prepared to bless the surrounding community. By September of 2024, the original $4,000 had multiplied into over $80,000. The money went to several different ministries and organizations throughout Mesa County, helping support them through volunteering and giving. The process proved that God truly does provide when we make the effort to support those around us.
So far, our Kingdom Assignment includes a four part video series on how this idea began and grew over time. As this assignment further progresses, more updates will be posted here, revealing the journey of how Christ's love continues to grow in our community.
