Please join us for our next SAM outing as we head to the Grand Mesa for a Wildflower Walk. Join Colorado Native Plant Master, Douglas Grodt, on a wildflower and plant walk on the cool Grand Mesa to learn about sub-alpine plants and environment. For all to hear, the group must be limited to 14. Sign up will be at either Info Desk. Please indicate if you wish to stay for lunch, so we can make reservations. Also indicate if you are able to drive and how many can ride with you. We will meet in front of the church on Wednesday, August 2nd at 8:45 am to assemble carpools to the Grand Mesa to begin the walk. We will discuss about 20 plants, learning their common name, plant family, how they fit in, and how they have been used by humans. Hopefully, we will be able to spot the elusive elephantella lousewort, which looks remarkably like columns of pink elephant heads! We will drive to several special wildflower sites and walk a short distance to examine and learn about each. You must be able to walk on uneven ground in an area that might be damp. The walk will last be about 1.5 hours. Afterwards, those who wish, will stop for a lunch at the popular and beautiful Mesa Lakes Lodge Resort, next to scenic Mesa Lake. Bring water, a hat, bug repellent and good shoes. Everyone attending will be given a paper chart as a guide to follow along. For more information, please contact Charity Finnigsmier at 970 242-1923 or am@firstpresgj.org. If you have questions about the hike contact, Douglas Grodt.
