Lunch
in Baker, CA114 Degrees
Saturday, July 7th - We left bright and early and made it to San Diego in
15 hours (which included one hour in So. California traffic. Hot spot of the
day? Baker, Nevada - gateway to Death Valley. We ate lunch at a park and it
was 115 degrees. On the good side, the hot temperatures made us less eager
to stop for breaks. We were already bonding on the road trip and made it to
Point Loma Nazarene University, moved into our dorm rooms and grabbed a bite
to eat at In-And-Out Burgers. Thank you for your prayers for our safe
travel. We are excited to see what tomorrow holds.
Sunday, July 8th - We had a great breakfast in the cafeteria and got a
great ocean view while we had a brief time of worship. We committed to
fasting from all of the devices we surround ourselves with on a regular
basis (cell phones and Ipods) to keep our eyes and ears open for what God
wanted to show us and say to us. Our border crossing went well and we
arrived at our camp on the cool coast of Baja, Mexico. Plenty of room to set
up our tents and cooking-kitchen station and campfire area.
Primitive
outhouses and places to hang our shower bags in walled off and graveled
bathhouses rounded out all of the amenities that our AMOR campsite provides.
We met our AMOR building assistant, Chrissy. She just graduated from college
and has committed the next 15 months of her life to this ministry. During
our campfire, Sean reminded us from 1 Peter 2 that we are also building
ourselves up as a spiritual household for God.
We went to bed before 10 pm and were eager to meet our family. We will be
building for a single mother (Angela) of five kids who range in age from 20
to 10 (two girls and three boys). The family is about a 30 minute drive from
our campsite. Please pray for us as we meet them and get to work tomorrow.
You can see the team bonding together already. They worked hard setting up
the camp and getting dinner ready. By the way, John Young has planned some
incredible meals for us. Your continued prayers that we represent Christ
and FPC well are much appreciated.
